Thirty-four securities are eligible at launch, representing roughly <strong>$30 trillion<\/strong> in market value, <em>according to a DTCC spokesperson cited by CoinDesk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Twenty participants have signed access agreements, including Bank of America, Barclays, Citi, Fidelity Investments, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Citadel Securities, State Street and UBS, with more firms expected to join. The scale matters because of DTCC\u2019s position in the market: through its subsidiaries, the firm handles clearing, settlement and custody for much of U.S. stock and bond trading, with more than <strong>$114 trillion<\/strong> in securities held at its depository.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mechanics are deliberately conservative. Tokens are backed one-for-one by securities held at DTCC subsidiary Depository Trust Company (DTC). Eligible firms can convert securities into tokens during business hours, with DTCC targeting processing times of 15 minutes or less, and the tokens can then move between registered wallets around the clock, subject to compliance restrictions. Official ownership records stay with DTC, which separates the model from synthetic stock tokens that track prices without conferring ownership of the underlying shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The launch builds on a December SEC no-action letter that permitted DTCC to tokenize a defined set of securities. DTCC\u2019s roadmap adds Stellar (<strong>XLM<\/strong>) and Circle\u2019s Arc blockchain next year, along with digital-cash settlement tools and the use of tokenized securities as collateral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rollout lands amid a broader push by incumbents. Nasdaq and the NYSE are building tokenized trading infrastructure, while NYSE parent ICE is set to run a blockchain-based venue with OKX under the SEC\u2019s innovation exemption. Citi analysts have projected tokenized securities could reach <strong>$5.5 trillion<\/strong> by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the core U.S. settlement layer now issuing tokens, the open question shifts from whether Wall Street tokenizes to which chains capture the flow.
