The move takes the deposit token beyond Base, the Coinbase-built layer-2 network where it launched roughly a year ago.

Emma Landriault, head of Kinexys Labs at the bank’s blockchain unit, told Bloomberg that JPMorgan picked Ethereum because it offers deeper liquidity than rival networks and is already used by institutional clients. The target users are crypto firms that want to make blockchain-based payments and financial institutions that need a digital cash leg to settle trades or back tokenized assets. Landriault did not give a launch date. JPMorgan had not responded to a CoinDesk request for details at publication time.

The bank flagged the expansion in January, when it said it planned to take the token to the Canton Network. Kinexys, JPMorgan’s private blockchain, already processes more than $7 billion in transactions per day. That is a small fraction of the bank’s roughly $12 trillion in daily payments. Ethereum-based applications hold close to $50 billion in locked crypto assets, per DeFiLlama data.

The decision stands out because most bank tokenization efforts have stayed on permissioned infrastructure. JPMorgan, Citi, Bank of America and Wells Fargo, along with more than a dozen other U.S. lenders, are working on a shared network for tokenized deposits. More than 30 banks are also helping Swift design its blockchain-based ledger. In July, 17 of those banks, including Citi and Wells Fargo, were named as preparing live pilots on the Swift ledger; JPMorgan was not on that list.

Unlike stablecoins issued by non-bank firms, a deposit token is a claim on commercial bank deposits and sits inside existing banking regulation. Bringing one to a public chain puts a bank-grade settlement asset in the same environment as ETH-based DeFi liquidity.

The practical impact will depend on rollout timing and on whether JPM Coin becomes usable in open applications or stays limited to approved counterparties.

JPMorgan will make JPM Coin, its token representing U.S. dollar deposits at the bank, available to institutional clients

[2

post-620","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-last-news
["GET
