{"id":533,"date":"2026-08-14T15:07:29","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T15:07:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/1stblock.info\/?p=533"},"modified":"2026-08-14T15:07:55","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T15:07:55","slug":"solana-came-within-4-5-of-halting-after-routing-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/1stblock.info\/?p=533","title":{"rendered":"Solana Came Within 4.5% of Halting After Routing Failure"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A routing failure at hosting provider <strong>Teraswitch<\/strong> knocked <strong>28.83%<\/strong> of all staked <strong>SOL<\/strong> offline on Wednesday, pushing Solana within 4.5 percentage points of the <strong>33.34%<\/strong> threshold at which the network stops finalizing transactions, according to an analysis from liquid staking platform Marinade Finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fault originated at Teraswitch&#8217;s Miami facility and propagated through a route reflector in Amsterdam, cutting off roughly 90 validators across twelve data centers spanning London, Frankfurt, Singapore, Tokyo and Dublin. North American validators were unaffected. Routing was restored in about 33 minutes, and Solana never stopped producing or finalizing blocks \u2014 the network&#8217;s public status page recorded no outage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident exposed a deeper structural issue: a single autonomous system, AS20326, hosts <strong>27.34%<\/strong> of all staked SOL, already above the Solana Foundation Delegation Program&#8217;s recommended 25% cap per provider. During the outage, 94% of that stake went dark simultaneously. Marinade also found that only 3 of 74 measured validators successfully failed over to backup infrastructure \u2014 Helius, Solana&#8217;s second-largest validator, stayed offline for the full disruption window.
