On-chain analysis from xrpl.to found that the attacker simulated deposits by transferring their own wrapped CORE tokens between addresses under their control and attaching text memos containing destination details for the Coreum network \u2014 relayers accepted the fabricated deposit data without properly validating the actual destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tx team has since halted the bridge, patched the vulnerability, hired blockchain forensics experts and filed an FBI complaint, but has not yet explained how affected holders will be compensated. Investigators note the XRP Ledger itself was not compromised \u2014 the flaw sat entirely in the bridge&#8217;s relayer software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stolen tokens haven&#8217;t stayed put. Attackers converted the stolen XRP into ETH before routing funds through THORChain and Tornado Cash, a pattern that makes recovery unlikely even with active FBI involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident lands at an already fragile moment for <strong>XRP<\/strong>, which is trading near $1.02, close to a 21-month low, down roughly 4.4% this week as broader crypto markets digest today&#8217;s U.S. CPI print.
