This key change means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Companies no longer require separate, and often expensive, <strong>Australian Financial Services (AFS) licenses<\/strong> to act as intermediaries in these markets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intermediaries are now permitted to use <strong>\u201comnibus accounts,\u201d<\/strong> provided they maintain proper record-keeping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact on the Industry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator noted that the approved omnibus accounts are widely used in the industry because they offer efficiencies in speed and transaction costs, and help certain entities manage risk and cybersecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drew Bradford, CEO of Australian stablecoin issuer Macropod, stated that ASIC\u2019s announcement <strong>\u201chelps level the field for stablecoin innovation in Australia.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He added that by providing a <strong>clearer, more flexible framework<\/strong>\u2014especially concerning reserve and asset-management requirements\u2014ASIC removes friction and gives the sector confidence to build.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bradford emphasized that this measured clarity is <strong>essential for scaling real-world use cases<\/strong>, payments, treasury management, cross-border flows, and onchain settlement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Angela Ang, head of policy and strategic partnerships at TRM Labs, also welcomed the development, stating that things are <strong>\u201clooking up for Australia\u201d<\/strong> and expressing anticipation for greater regulatory clarity and sector growth in the coming year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Global Stablecoin Growth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Globally, the total stablecoin market capitalization is at a record high of just over <strong>$300 billion<\/strong>.
